The mint julep was born in Kentucky at the turn of the 15th century and was used for medicinal purposes, as were many cocktails. It began with herbs and sugar, but the concoction we drink today is classically made with Kentucky Bourbon.
- 4 oz Kentucky Bourbon
- 5 ml Simple Syrup
- 4 sprig/s Mint Four is a good starting point but you can add more if you need more
Add bourbon (Kentucky Bourbon would be best but any bourbon will do)
Add simple syrup to the mix
Stir with a bar spoon until the outside of the julep cup starts to frost with condensation
Pluck some fresh mint sprigs from the garden and garnish. You're going to want the mint sprigs extending above the rim of the julep cup then toss in a straw and get to drinking
To add a little variation you could include a splash of club soda to the Mint Julep Recipe.
